Outlander season 5 is coming in February 2020 and the new installment will see some of the characters facing several problems, including divided in loyalties and the impending American Revolutionary War. But, will Lord John Grey betray Jamie Fraser?
Outlander season 5 could be the most exciting season of the series so far, as it would see Jamie being in a difficult position after pledging his allegiance to the crown in the fourth installment. But the question now is: are Jamie and his dear friend Lord John at odds when the new season arrives?
According to Express, Lord John's loyalty will be conflicted in the upcoming installment. His love for Jamie is still strong, but he's also aware the Highlander cares deeply for outlaw Murtagh and does not want him to hand over to the authorities.
When the new season arrives, viewers will see the character being in a difficult situation. There's a chance Lord John takes Murtagh's side and this would be a huge betrayal for Jamie. However, it's also possible he would find another way; he could murder Murtagh rather than letting him escape.
In an interview with TV Insider earlier this year, Lord John Grey actor David Berry revealed his character is "stuck in the middle." He's got his allegiance with both the Frasers and the crown, which could be really difficult for him and torn with the situation.
Berry teased Lord John will have to deal with this matter in Outlander season 5, so viewers should wait and see what will happen to the character. Also, in another interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor further explained what's next for his character.
He said Lord John is torn since his allegiances are to the Frasers and to the Crown. Berry concluded that his character's situation in Outlander season 5 will bring some interesting drama. Lord John might be forced to make a huge and tough decision which could have a big impact on others.
Meanwhile, the cast also teased all the characters will have difficult times and experience upheaval. Murtagh, in particular, will be on the run and a fugitive in the upcoming installment. The character's fate is also in question as he was dead in Diana Gabaldon's original novels.
There's a chance Murtagh will be killed out at some point to align the series with the novel. This season, the series is entirely based on the source text with content from two novels merged into one: The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
Outlander season 5 is set to premiere on Sunday, Feb. 16, on Starz.
