There were only a few details about Outlander season 5, specifically in terms of filming updates as cast and crew couldn't talk about things in general. But, the question is: how far the series is into production?
So far, this has been the quietest filming period over the past few years, and there isn't a specific date about how far Outlander season 5 is into production. However, show executive producer Matthew B. Roberts shared a post on Instagram last week, confirming they were "more than halfway" done with filming.
That only makes sense as production for the upcoming installment reportedly began back in April. There were also speculations that filming will possibly run until right before the holiday season, which makes everything fall right on schedule.
It seems like the production will still going on during the New York Comic-Con panel and whoever attends will be on filming break. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are confirmed to joining the event, but there's no confirmation on other cast members. Outlander will be part of the convention on Saturday, October 5, wherein there will be a panel, as well as an autograph signing on that day.
Meanwhile, it can also be noted that in the past, it took about nine months to film a season from the beginning to the end. But since the upcoming season will reportedly consist of 12 episodes, then filming might be a little more streamlined with a larger cast, thus filming could wrap up about eight months this time around.
Outlander season 5 will reportedly arrive on Starz at some point in 2020, as airing it early in the year could attract more viewers. Some also speculated the series would arrive in March 2020 as the network will possibly finish airing the final episodes of Power before bringing Heughan-Balfe drama back to the air.
Previously, Starz confirmed the final season of Power would be split into two parts, with the first part airing on August 25, while the second one in January 2020. Because of this, the release schedule of Outlander season 5 has been influenced, with some saying it will air in late February or early March.
But then, others also believed the network could air the two shows at the same time due to several reasons. Ratings could be one of the major factors why Starz could be pairing the shows together because even though they have different audiences, the programs are the two biggest hits of the network.
