Fans are outraged at SBS after it was reported that Red Velvet's Wendy fell off the stage during rehearsals for Gayo Daejeon, resulting in severe injuries. Reveluvs hit the network for negligence and for placing the artists' safety at risk over their inadequate preparation. Other fandoms voiced support after learning that Wendy was not the only victim.
According to a statement of SM Entertainment, the label confirmed that Red Velvet's Wendy sustained injuries during the rehearsals for her individual performance for 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon when she fell off the stage.
In their update, the agency shared the extent of the artist's injuries which included injuries to her face, as well as fractures on her pelvis and wrist on the right side of the body. Wendy reportedly underwent treatment and was awaiting more examinations.
"As her health comes first, we will focus on her treatment," SM Entertainment said, and indicated that revised plans for the promotion of Red Velvet's comeback The ReVe Festival Finale will be announced at a later date.
In its public apology, SBS expressed their remorse over the incident.
"On December 25, there was an unfortunate accident during rehearsals for 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon that led to Red Velvet's Wendy sustaining injuries. As a result, Red Velvet is unable to appear in the live show of 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon, and we sincerely apologize to fans and viewers. We hope that Red Velvet's Wendy will have a fast recovery, and SBS will take greater care to ensure safety in the future."
However, Reveluvs were dissatisfied over the apology and explanation made by SBS after videos surfaced of other artists almost injuring themselves on the stage.
According to a report by All Kpop, fans tweeted that TWICE's Sana and NCT's Tayeong almost fell on stage too. Some videos showed artists like Yuta and Jaehyun did not perform with their usual energy and chalked down their hesitation to the flimsy stage set up.MAMAMOO's Solar also slipped on the unmarked red carpet steps during rehearsal and BTS' V almost got injured while rehearsing for SBS Gayo Daejeon.
SBS's Gayo Daejeon was supposed to be one of the biggest yearend events in Korean music entertainment, showcasing the biggest stars of the year. However, with reports of artists' safety being compromised, fans have taken to social media to criticize the network for its poor preparations.
