After initially denying dating rumors, Super Junior's Kim Heechul and TWICE Momo have confirmed their relationship and officially became the first Kpop couple of 2020.
Both Heechul and Momo's labels have confirmed their relationships with Label SJ and JYP Entertainment releasing their official statements, All Kpop reported .
According to the agencies, Heechul and TWICE began to get close with a senior-junior relationship at first but later began to develop feelings for each other. Despite their busy schedules, the pair were reported to be dating well and became a constant source of support for each other.
In almost identical statements, Label SJ and JYP made the first dating confirmation of the year.
"Hello, this is JYP Entertainment. We are confirming that Heechul and Momo are in a relationship. They have recently started a relationship that grew from a sunbae-hoobae friendship in the industry. Thank you," JYP confirmed.
Dating rumors first began to swirl around Heechul and Momo in August 2019 but their labels maintained that the pair only had a close friendship and nothing more, E! reported.
The rumors then hinted that the couple started dating in 2017 after they worked together for a project.
Fans recalled that Heechul was a big fan of TWICE Momo and regaled at their chemistry when she appeared as a guest on Knowing Bros. along with other members of TWICE.
In 2016, Heechul also asked MOMO to star in his special MV for his collaboration with Min Kyunghoon for the song Sweet Dream which he composed.
The dating news of Heechul and Momo was met with mostly positive response from fans of the pair, as they cheered on the two Kpop idols in their relationship.
Heechul's fans were happy that the Super Junior member found someone special to share his joys and sadness with after two of his good friends died last year.
It can be recalled that Heechul's friends, Sulli and Goo Hara died within the space of one month after both stars were believed to have taken their own lives because of the pressures of stardom.
After Hara's death, Heechul's fans were worried when the idol unfollowed everyone on Instagram and switched his account to private.
He recently opened up about his grief during a live broadcast and confirmed that he adopted Sulli's cat Goblin after her death. He said he kept it a secret from his agency and originally did not want to tell the fans to prevent speculations but he decided to be open about it and talked about how much he cried when he first came into his home.
He also thanked the cast and crew of My Ugly Duckling for adhering to his request to edit out the cat from the show. After hearing this, fans are even more happy to see Heechul and Momo together.
