Outlander season 5 is coming on Starz in February and many were excited to see Jamie and Claire back in the small screen. The new season will bring more chaos and problems to some of the characters, with the Frasers facing new challenges. The upcoming installment will also see Claire as a doctor, but will it have a major role in the series?
Recently, an hour-long ambient video of Claire Fraser's (Caitriona Balfe) surgery has been released and showed the pre-20th century medical paraphernalia. Outlander season 5 will see Claire taking the role of a doctor and the clip shows she gathered plants and other essential medicines to use as part of her treatment. Additionally, she's keeping notes about her patients and their treatments.
In the video, a microscope was seen which one of the many tools Claire uses in her everyday work. Moreover, boxes of medicines are on the side of the surgery which she'll be using to treat the patients. Outlander season 5 is one of the exciting seasons so far since it sees Claire finally establishing a base at Fraser's Ridge. She's going to see the sick and has all medical equipment in one place.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about Claire's role as a doctor in Outlander season 5, Balfe said her character makes her own medicine. She added it's interesting to see that Claire has found a way to perform certain surgeries that would have been so commonplace in the 1960s. Also, one of her patients is her daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton), who's dealing with physical and psychological issues.
In another report from TV Insider, Balfe said they spent so much time establishing Fraser's Ridge in the previous season. But now, viewers will see the family settled in and the community is growing. The actress also said Claire is very concerned about protecting her family and it likely leads her in all kinds of cool medical stuff in the latest installment.
Meanwhile, Starz confirmed that the new trailer of Outlander season 5 will be released on Friday's edition of Good Morning America at 8 A.M. Eastern time on ABC. According to CarterMatt, the content of the new trailer will likely feature what's happening at Fraser's Ridge and with Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire. Moreover, it will also tease what viewers can expect in the new season.
Outlander season 5 is set to arrive on Sunday, Feb. 16, on Starz. The new season isn't a straight adaptation of one of Diana Gabaldon's novels, instead, the fifth installment is based on source materials from two novels merged into one: The Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes.
