The Apple Watch allows users to compose and write messages but not in the same way as on the Apple iPhone because of the difference in the screen size. The Cupertino company suggests using voice commands is still the best way to share something. However, it seems that developer Adam Foot has a different idea as he introduces Shift Keyboard-an app that features real keyboard on the screen of Apple Watch.
The Shift Keyboard is a full keyboard that features all the characters users see on regular smartphone or iPhone. It comes with a weird sound but seems to be an interesting alternative in writing and sending messages using the Apple Watch. Within the Shift Keyboard, users can find two kinds of keyboard options, the Full and the Precise.
Users can choose the type that suits their preference through the settings. The most common and simple option is the Precise type, which has all the letters, numbers, and simple characters in large font size. This type is meant for those who exactly know how and what they want to write using their Apple Watch.
The Precise option offers alternative to Apple Watch users on how they want the keyboard to appear. There are two options, the AZERTY and the QWERTY. In addition to the Precise type, users can also choose the more interesting option, Full. The Full type of Shift Keyboard appears exactly the same as the way keyboards appear on iOS devices.
Since the screen of the Apple Watch is small, the Full options work with suggestions and predictions to enhance the message Apple Watch users are typing. The only down part of this option is that it does not come with numbers and special characters, but it is a lot faster to type using this option.
While the Shift Keyboard is interesting, because of the limitations of the SDK of Apple Watch, the app works as a standalone app and not as a third-party keyboard. In other words, Apple Watch users could only use it with the system's native Message app to send iMessage and SMS. The Shift Keyboard is now available on Apple Store and works only on Apple Watch running on watchOS 6.0 or later.
In other Apple news, several sites reported earlier that Apple might use a new display technology utilized in Apple Watch display that could help make future iPhones become more efficient smartphones. But, at this point, this is just mere speculation, and with the advances in technology, many things can happen between now and the release of the next generation flagship smartphone series.
