Kate Middleton celebrated her 38th birthday on Thursday, Jan. 9. However, the celebration was overshadowed by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's resignation announcement. Despite the big revelation, the Sussexes still managed to greet the Duchess of Cambridge on Instagram, but it was still welcomed with a lot of opinions, questioning the timing of their big revelation.
Some said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's greeting seemed to be too short and simple. Instead of writing a post on their own Instagram account, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry only left a comment on the thank you message that Kensington Palace posted on the same platform.
"Wishing a very happy birthday to The Duchess of Cambridge today!" they wrote, including a birthday cake and heart emoji. According to Express, the comment received thousands of likes and reactions.
Some users appreciated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's greetings, while others seemed disappointed with their move. One follower said that they forgot to add HRH on their names, asking them to give respect to other members of the RF.
Another one added that they, indeed, made Kate Middleton's memorable by announcing their resignation from their royal duties. One follower even advised them that they could have postponed their announcement a day after Prince William's wife's birthday. "How could it be very happy after your announcement?" a fan asked.
On the same day of Kate Middleton's birthday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their plan to "step back as senior members of the royal family" on Instagram. They also expressed their intention to be financially independent while they would continue to support Queen Elizabeth II fully.
The royal couple plans to divide their time between the United Kingdom and North America, particularly Canada, where they spent their six-week break with their son, baby Archie. Anyhow, they promised to continue to honor their duty to Her Majesty, the Commonwealth, and their patronages.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also vowed to continue the launch of their new charity entity, the Sussex Royal. They, too, will continue to work with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William, and all the relevant parties.
Despite their move, the two will still balance their time between the U.K. and North America. They, too, will raise baby Archie to appreciate the royal tradition that he and his father was born in. They assured they would share the full details of their plans at the right time as they focused on the next chapter of their lives. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle then thanked everyone for their continuous support.
