Prince Harry is not flying to Canada to join his wife, Meghan Markle, and son, Archie Harrison. The Duchess of Sussex flew to the Commonwealth country on the day the Duke of Sussex had to sort out their issues with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and Prince William.
According Daily Express, Prince Harry will remain in London to work with the royal houses on carving their new arrangement and roles. Buckingham Palace confirmed that he also has an event on Jan. 16 with the Rugby League World Cup.
Meghan returned to Canada, so soon after coming back to London after their Canadian holiday, because their son, Archie Harrison, was still there after the Christmas holiday. The Duchess' best friend, Jessica Mulroney, has been taking care of the young royal, along with his nanny.
In the meantime, Prince Harry has been locked in a series of four-way conferences with the senior royals. They are trying to settle an agreement on the new roles of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moving forward. It comes as Prince Harry and Meghan said they would no longer be senior members of the royal family, and they would like to live in two locations, the U.K. and North America, aside from gaining financial independence from the royal coffers.
Sources said that the governments have been involved in the talks, suggesting the U.K. and Canada. It's unclear if there are also arrangements for the U.S., Meghan's homeland. Things are progressing well as Queen Elizabeth herself told her heirs this must be sorted out in "days and not weeks."
Meanwhile, a friend of Prince Harry said that the Duke's primary purpose for semi-retiring from the royal family is to protect his wife and his son. JJ Chalmers told People that, in the last few years, Prince Harry has embraced being a dad and a husband. He has also been agonizing about making the right choice for his baby boy. This suggested that Prince Harry is leaning towards renouncing his royal life so that Archie may have a good life away from the spotlight.
Journalist Tom Bradby also said that Prince Harry and Meghan might have made their decision even before they traveled to South Africa in October 2019. Bradby, who was behind the documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, revealed that while he was making this with the Sussex pair, he had a sense that they were saying goodbye to their royal life.
