Tesla cars are designed to feature artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that will allow the EVs to interact not only with the man behind the wheels but also with the people outside. This exactly was the new function recently teased by Tesla CEO Elon Musk - a Model 3 that talks to pedestrians.

To be clear, the interaction previewed by Musk only showed programed dialogs, which is hardly a letdown as the feature remains a work in progress. But what was seen clearly indicated the gradual fulfillment of Tesla's promise to build cars that will get smarter in the next few years.

How exactly the talking Model 3 will benefit users and the pedestrians outside, Musk has yet to reveal it fully, but it was certainly established that Tesla is doubling hard on AI innovations to make EVs smarter and safer for both users and the general public.

It was easy to see that the function is to make for convenient use on the part of drivers and for the people where Tesla cars operate to enjoy a higher level of safety measures, according to Engadget. For instance, a user can call the attention of a man on the street without opening the door or rolling down the window.

A talking Model 3 can also prevent crime as the speaking car is seen to deter theft, the report added.

Tesla, however, has not indicated when the AI feature will be deployed or if the function when available will apply to older Tesla car builds.

However, Musk has made clear that he intends for Tesla EVs to interact not only with drivers as he tweeted with the shared preview: "Teslas will soon talk to people if you want. This is real."

Such objective was supported by the company's ramped up efforts in recent years to beef up engineering talents that have been tasked to work on AI-focused projects. Electrek said AI is seen by Musk as the key element in building a self-driving vehicle, and at the same time he viewed the technology to power all the smart features planned for future Tesla car models.

Over the long term, Musk imagines a Tesla car that will be smart enough to engage with people and do specific works for them, but what he previewed is still a far cry from the example he mentioned. Per the same report, a driver or pedestrians having a conversation with a Tesla car remains a remote possibility.

The sneak peek, however, indicated that Musk is quite serious about delivering his promise that soon a Tesla car will roll out, and it will be smart enough to excite users and onlookers alike.
