The Sixers will need a boost, both on the offensive and defensive ends, that will fuel their campaign in the ongoing season. There are solid candidates in sight but Philadelphia could just opt to win back a player that has become synonymous with winning NBA titles. That would be Andre Iguodala.
Iguodala started out in the NBA as part of the 76ers and he made countless memories with the club for eight years. Since he left, the prized sixth man collected honors and victories. He won several NBA rings and once voted as Finals MVP while a core member of the Golden State Warriors.
Last summer, Iggy ended his stint in the Bay Area and officially he is part of the Memphis roster but hasn't played a singled game. Mutually, the Grizzlies and Iguodala have agreed that a trade deal will work best for them and since the franchise has been shopping for an acceptable arrangement.
The Sixers could possibly make a bid on Iguodala, according to Clutch Points. Specifically, the team needs some heavy lifting on the shooting department as front liners Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons still fall short on their expected contributions.
In part, what the Sixers seek for Iguodala can deliver and more. He will surely bring in leadership and the composure to win NBA titles, which to be sure are elements equally important to the Philadelphia front office.
And most importantly, having Iggy around would mean the Sixers defense will be bolstered, the report added. It is an established fact that Iguodala made life difficult for LeBron James when Cleveland clashed with the Dubs, and partly that's part of the reasons GSW has won the Larry O'Brien multiple times.
As mentioned, the Grizzlies are all ears on trade proposals concerning the former Warriors but the team has already made clear - a first-round pick offer will surely be the starter of a more serious discussion. Anything less will only lead to a loop.
If the Sixers will find the terms too limiting, Memphis will not think twice to get a move on and talk with other interested parties.
The last update from the team was Iguodala will be wearing a different color before February 6, according to Bleacher Report, citing the recent story on the matter by ESPN.
"The word on the street is that they (Grizzlies) really do believe that they're going to find a trade for Iguodala," the report said.
Memphis' confidence that a trade deal is forthcoming could be due to the fact that numerous teams have been wanting to get Iguodala and they include the Lakers, the Clippers, the Nuggets, and now the Sixers.
However, most of these suitors are reportedly waiting for Memphis to just buyout Iguodala's carry over contract from the Warriors, a scenario that would afford better flexibility for the acquiring team.
