As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed they would be splitting their time between two countries this year, questions have been raised about who will take over their patronages and charities. Royal observers think that Princess Eugenie, the daughter of the Duke of York, can pick up the slack. But is the York royal right for the role?

According to Daily Express, it could be the right time for Princess Eugenie to take on more responsibilities in the royal family. Queen Elizabeth could call on the York princess and her sister, Princess Beatrice, as Prince Harry and Meghan step back.

Apparently, it's no longer possible to consider senior royals like Prince Charles and Prince William to absorb Prince Harry's royal engagements for 2020. As it is, the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge have had more duties given to them by the Queen in the last few years as direct heirs to the throne.

Princess Anne, Princess Royal, on the other hand, is the second most-hardworking royal family member with 506 functions in 2019. It doesn't look feasible for her to also take over Prince Harry's roles.

Prince Andrew, on the other hand, has resigned from his royal duties in November 2019 amid the sex scandal of his billionaire friend, the late Jeffrey Epstein, in so he is out of the line-up. His eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, who is the 9th in line to the throne, could likely take over the Duke of York's patronages.

As of press time, Buckingham Palace has not made any announcements about what has been arranged for Prince Harry and Meghan's new life and who shall carry on his jobs. Governments of the U.K. and Canada have to consider security, living costs and travel arrangements for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Prince Harry and Meghan, however, also expressed that they would like to be financially independent and earn a private income to pay for their lifestyle.

While the crisis talks between Prince Harry and the senior royals took place last Monday in Sandringham, Princess Eugenie was seen enjoying a night out in London at the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair. Princess Eugenie is the 10th in line to the British throne. However, she's now regarded as a key figure in this royal shift, per Daily Mail.

The York princess, who married Jack Brooksbank in October 2018, works as director of an art gallery. As someone who has her job, she hasn't had an active part in The Firm, but this might all change soon.
