Super Junior added yet another honor to its haul from the 2019 Kpopstarz award after the 2nd generation idol group won the First Wish of Hallyu Special Award.

The honor was given to Super Junior for their development and special achievements from the beginning of their career which was sustained until now. As a result, they have become the first wish of a generation of Hallyu fans who fell in love with Kpop because of the group.

They started with 12 members in 2005 for their debut. The original team was composed of Leeteuk, Heechul, Hangeng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kibum. Kyuhyun was added to the group in 2006 and became the youngest member of Super Junior.

Over the years, Super Junior introduced many concepts. Because they were a large group compared to other idol groups, they were able to add sub units. The vocal line of Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, and Yesung made up Super Junior KRY. There was also the trot unit (Super Junior T) made up of Leeteuk, Heechul, Kangin, Sungmin, Shindong, and Eunhyuk.

Super Junior's Donghae and Eunhyuk also formed a sub unit called Super Junior D & E, which remains active until now. There were also sub units like Super Junior M, which added singers who were not part of the original group. Zhoumi and Henry Lau joined Hangeng, Siwon, Donghae, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook for the sub unit. Leeteuk, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, and Eunhyuk formed Super Junior H.

Over the years, several members left, including Chinese member Hangeng. Kibum also left the group to pursue acting. Sungmin was unofficially left out of Super Junior promotions after ELFs threatened to boycott group activities because of the mishandling of his relationship and wedding news. Kangin was unable to return to the group because of a DUI scandal.

Super Junior made plenty of significant accomplishments as they enter their 15th year in the industry. Some might say they paved the way for the Hallyu wave when their Sorry, Sorry took over the world by storm in 2009.

In 2019, after completing all of their mandatory services to the military, Super Junior staged an epic comeback with the nine remaining members and still won awards against younger idols proving that they still have what it takes to stay relevant and win in the charts.

Their last two albums - Play, released in 2017, which was produced with seven members, sold 200,000 copies in its first week of release. Their ninth studio album featuring all nine active members, Time Slip received a Platinium Album Certification from Gaon Chart, after selling 365,751 copies.

Super Junior is gearing to make another comeback with a repackaged Timeless album featuring a collaboration with rapper Zico, who composed and produced the new track 2YA2YAO. The new album will drop on January 28, Soompi reported.
