ARMYs are having a field day analyzing the symbolism and the haunting choreography of BTS's new song Black Swan, and the members themselves gathered to view the art film performed by the MN Dance Company to share their reactions.
According to a report by All Kpop, RM, J-Hope, Jin, Suga, Jimin, V, and Jungkook sat down to view the art film released for their Black Swan song together and filmed their first reactions.
As they sat together to watch the film, members occasionally reacted in awe to the beautiful choreography in the contemporary dance moves used by the popular dance troupe. They also exclaimed over the story that was being told by the beautiful movements.
ARMYs were so enthralled with the dance that they started a dance challenge to channel their inner Black Swans. Using the hashtag #BlackSwanChallenge, fans attempted to copy the choreography the best that they could. While some were able to show off their concentration and skills, others failed epically and ended up with hilarious videos instead, Metro reported.
While the buzz is high on the symbolism of the art film which was reportedly inspired by American dancer Martha Graham's "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful" quote, fans have also uncovered evidence that BTS has been referencing Black Swan long before their comeback for Map of the Soul: 7.
ARMYs shared that, as far back as BTS' video for Blood, Sweat, and Tears, members were already channeling Darren Aronofsky's tragic film, starring Natalie Portman, which earned her an Oscar for Best Actress in 2011.
According to the side by side comparisons from the Black Swan movie and the Blood Sweat and Tears MV, it can be noticed that Jin's character showed many parallels to Portman's character. ARMYs theorized that the dark winged statue in the MV was a representation of Black Swan all along and that's Jin's fascination with his reflection was his version of the hallucinations that Portman's characters suffered towards the end of the film.
Fans also recalled Jin's face showing a crack similar to the actress' image in the Black Swan poster at the end of the video.
ARMYs also referenced V's role in the BTS Live Trilogy Episode III The Wings Tour trailer where he was featured with a set of black wings that he unfurled as he approached a stage. Back then, fans saw the wings as a representation of an angel. They, now, believe that V was representing a black swan, especially with the scars on his back at the Blood, Sweat and Tears MV similar to Natalie Portman's character in the movie.
Fans also spotted more evidence of Black Swan references in the video and shared them online, Koreaboo reported.
