With LeBron James and Anthony Davis headlining for the Los Angeles Lakers, the team is among the favorites to win the 2020 NBA title. But in order to increase the chance of becoming champs again, the Lakers actively search for a third star and one solid candidate is the Pistons' Derrick Rose.
The former MVP is, of course, a magnet for trade proposals. Detroit is said to be receiving inquiries on the NBA veteran, and one of the interested clubs turned out to be the Lakers.
According to Yahoo Sports, if indeed Los Angeles will want to get a hold on Rose, the team will have to outbid multiple rivals, and most notably the Sixers. The 31-year-old guard fits the Lakers' requirements - he can certainly score and, at one point in his career was adjudged the league's best.
In other words, Rose is a certified NBA star that should work well with AD and King James. With the way things are going for him in Detroit, it will be a boost for the Lakers to consider trading for Rose.
"He has been the Pistons' most consistent offensive weapon this season and his play has thrust him into consideration for the All-Star Game," Yahoo added on its report.
Notwithstanding the high marks Rose is getting, the Pistons are viewed to take a seller role in the trade market. And if the team is looking to rebuild for the long term, then the need to offers tradeable assets is a must. On this, Rose will surely get the attention.
If indeed the one-time MVP will be on the trading block, the Lakers have all the reasons to grab such an opportunity. Rose's caliber as a player will make the Lakers win more games, and certainly, he'll figure prominently with the team's campaign in the playoffs and all the way to the Finals.
In the season so far, Rose is averaging 18.3 points and that he did coming off the bench. Clutch Points noted that in games where the player started, he made more than 24 points per outing on the strength of 50.3 shooting percentage, which is his best since entering the NBA.
"In order to win a championship, the Lakers need to make a trade for another player with the capability to take some of the load off James and Davis. Derrick Rose is that player," the same report stressed.
It's not hard to imagine that joining up with the Lakers will result in a significant upgrade for the team. However, in order to gain Rose, Los Angeles must pique the interest of Detroit by offering young players and pick in return.
It is a big question though if the Lakers would be willing to send away their so-called future assets for Rose, who likely will turn out as the immediate solution in the quest to capture the Larry O'Brien.
