It's no secret that Meghan Markle and her father Thomas have a strained relationship. The pair have been vocal about how they feel towards each other, and it’s safe to say that they are not going to reconcile anytime soon.
But, Thomas Markle recently talked about his bond with the young Meghan in a new interview. His revelations then show a different side of his relationship with the Duchess of Sussex.
“We got along very well,” he told Channel 5. “Meghan took care of me as much as I took care of her. If I ever walked into ABC or any place that I’ve ever worked, the first thing they would always say to me is ‘How is Meghan?’ because that’s who I was always talking about. That’s what kept me going.”
Meghan Markle’s dad also shared unseen childhood clips of Prince Harry’s wife. The video showed the Duchess of Sussex as Red Riding Hood, and Thomas revealed that he helped with the production.
“I helped to make the shows real shows. Meghan was in almost all of those,” he said. “When I saw my daughter performing on stage, I felt tremendous pride. I knew from the day she was born she was going to eventually be doing that. It wasn’t a surprise or a shock to me, it was something I knew was going to happen.”
But, then, the topic shifted to criticizing not only his daughter but Prince Harry as well. Thomas Markle said that it was “foolish” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for stepping down from being senior royals as they knew that this was going to happen when they said their “I dos” in 2018.
"When they got married they took on an obligation, and the obligation is to be part of the Royals and to represent the Royals. And it would be foolish for them not to,” Meghan Markle’s dad said. “This is one of the greatest long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it, they are cheapening it, making it shabby… they shouldn't be doing this."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced that they would want to step down from being “senior royals” to be away from the limelight and just focus on their son and their charities. The royal couple also shared that they aim to be “financially independent” and to live part-time in Canada and the UK.
