It looked like Mike Tindall didn't want to talk about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's royal exit after he was questioned about the royal couple's shock decision. Although the former rugby union player finally broke his silence about the matter, he only gave little to no comment at all about the Sussexes' move to Canada.
In the latest episode of Joe's House of Rugby podcast, Mike Tindall was talking about his recent holiday trip to Australia. The host Alex Payne then suddenly made a joke, saying that it "wasn't a bad time" to be away from the United Kingdom with a lot of going on in The Firm. According to Hello! Magazine, the Bath and Gloucester former member simply said, "Let's not talk about that," when the said topic was opened.
Alex Payne then asked Mike Tindall and fellow host James Haskell, who is a good friend of Prince Harry, if they heard anything from the Duke of Duchess before they left. Haskell admitted he talked to Meghan Markle's husband before his departure, while Tindall insisted that their subject was a "no-go area" since he didn't know anything about it.
However, James Haskell explained that he didn't know anything about it either and didn't know more than what Mike Tindall knew. "I think it must be very traumatic and difficult; I have sent my regards. That's the extent of it," he added.
James Haskell and his wife, Chloe Madeley, were some of the few guests on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding in May 2018. Prince William's brother is the known patron of the Rugby Football Union and often seen with James and Mike Tindall at different matches and training sessions.
Queen Elizabeth II announced Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, per Express. The two, along with their son, baby Archie, will split their time between the United Kingdom and North America as they begin their new independent life.
In Prince Harry's emotional speech at his charity event, Sentebale, he said he had "no other option" but to step back from their royal duties. Despite their excitement, being hopeful, and willing to serve, it made him feel sad that everything came to this.
He then went on to say that their decision to step back was not made lightly. It took months of talks and many challenges. However, Prince Harry cleared that they are not walking away from the monarchy and the people.
He hopes to continuously serve the Queen, the Commonwealth, and the military association without public funding, but these were not possible. Prince Harry gladly accepted the consequence but promised that it didn't change who he was and his commitment. "I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life," he explained.
