A video of a seemingly tipsy Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt surfaced and showed the troubled NFL star in a traffic stop, which reportedly occurred Friday last week. In the same clip, Hunt's conversation with a police officer revealed a startling admission - that he would test positive for drug use.
First made public by TMZ, the short clip also showed the same officer offering some advice to Hunt, admonishing him to take advantage of the second chance given to him by the NFL. The police report incident indicated Hunt was only cited for speeding.
The Score reported that Hunt was not charged for drug possession despite the police finding a small amount of marijuana in his car. An unsealed container of vodka was also discovered during the search.
An interesting part of the exchanges between the emotional Hunt and the officer led to the former's admission that he would never get past a drug test at that moment.
"I mean, yes, sir [ would fail a drug test] ... It's the offseason. Sorry, I was having a good time," Hunt was reported as saying.
Clearly disappointed, the police officer reminded Hunt he should be thankful for the breaks handed to him in spite of his earlier troubles, stressing, "You had a good second part of the year ... You don't want to screw that up over some weed."
"Look at the [Baltimore] Ravens running back - what happened to him? [Ray] Rice. I mean, dude, I'm shocked that you got a second chance," the officer was heard as saying.
The officer was referring to the player's past controversies, and one that immediately comes to mind was the public spat that Hunt had with a woman. According to CBS Sports, that incident in November 2018 prompted the NFL to place Hunt on the Commissioner's Except List.
Then soon after, Hunt was released by Kansas City. It appeared that this episode continues to haunt the Browns tailback as he admitted before the officer that he "should be playing for the Super Bowl."
"It hurts my soul. You don't even understand. I've been fighting a lot of [expletive] lately. It still hurts me to this day," Hunt was reported as saying.
Indeed, the running back will miss what looked a chance of a lifetime for him. The Chiefs will soon clash with the San Francisco 49ers in Miami, and it can be assumed that if not for the controversies that plagued him in the past years, he'd be part of the historic game.
In a statement, the Browns said they were aware of the Hunt situation and are looking into the case.
