Good friends and labelmates Taeyeon and Kim Heechul recently sat down for a heart to heart talk for the show Petionista Taengoo. The episode provided insight into the SM artists' struggles with their careers and personal lives.
For the first time on a broadcast, Taeyeon discussed the major challenges she faced last year that forced her to re-evaluate her career and pushed her to want to take some time off, All Kpop reported.
According to the Girls' Generation member, Taeyeon felt that her plate was too full last year that she thought about needing time off to recharge. She said that SM Entertainment had good intentions in making her try different things and push her boundaries. However, this often resulted in her exhaustion from doing too much at the same time.
"I'm having a hard time. I'm seriously having a hard time. I've never thought about needing time off, but last year, I thought that I wanted to take a break for the first time. I needed time to recharge, but the schedules kept piling on and on, and so it's hard on me," Taeyeon said.
Heechul also spoke up about his struggles as he dealt with the aftermath of his relationship with TWICE's Momo going public. The Super Junior member denied previous reports that he's been seeing Momo for over three years and said that he didn't know her at all back then.
Heechul said that he was lucky that even as he felt apologetic to the fans, his and Momo's fans seemed supportive of their relationship, unlike the negative reaction being experienced by other idols who revealed their dating status. However, when he received support from fans, he felt even guiltier.
"I'm a lot like you in that the size of the plate where I can contain the people's love and attention is about this size, but after this news, I'm receiving so much more attention from so many people and it's hard for me to contain it all," he said.
Heechul also said that he decided to postpone the release of his upcoming album entitled Flower Petal, which symbolized Heechul as a flower and his fans as the petals. He said he did not want fans to give a different meaning to the album or relate the songs to his dating life.
During the broadcast, the pair refrained from mentioning the deaths of Sulli and Goo Hara, who are known to be good friends of both Taeyeon and Heechul. Fans were worried last year after Heechul unfollowed everyone on Instagram and switched to private. Taeyeon also postponed the release of her comeback to mourn the death of her friend.
