The previous episode of This Is Us season 4 featured an emotional, yet heartwarming reunion of Kevin and Sophie. The two have been through a lot since they were kids, and although they aren't together now, some signs point they're ending up together. But with the recently-aired episode, some wondered what the future holds for them.
This Is Us season 4 revealed that Sophie is engaged. Kevin received a call from his ex-wife and delivered the news that her mother, Claire, died. He flew to Pittsburgh to support Sophie and after the funeral, she asked him to take her away from the reception. The two shared a short moment together, and later on, Sophie revealed she's engaged to her fiancé, Grant.
Sophie seems to be happy with her new life now. But when she and Kevin spent some time at home, they were able to explore their past. However, that wouldn't change the fact that she's still engaged. Also, Kevin slept with Madison when he returned to Los Angeles. This isn't the wisest decision, but he felt vulnerable at that time.
The question now is: will Kevin and Sophie end up together? Right now, the situation is complicated for both of them. They got married but divorced later on. Despite that, they managed to get back together, and then broke up again. Their relationship is like a rollercoaster ride; it's painful and heartbreaking but they know they love each other.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show executive producers talked about the recent reunion of Kevin and Sophie in This Is Us season 4. EP Isaac Aptaker said the situation is particularly complicated for Sophie. He said the character has someone in her life who loves and supports her, but then, he's also someone who broke her heart. There are pros and cons, so she needs to make the right decision.
Meanwhile, EP Elizabeth Berger said the trip to Pittsburgh was a beautiful detour for Kevin. He spent some time with Sophie and helped her through her difficult time. Kevin was able to repay his ex-wife, as she was there when his father died. However, the trip was also a realization of the life he didn't choose and the one he walked away from. Berger said Kevin's "feeling all of the feelings" after this.
