Prior to his domination of Ivan Redkach, Danny Garcia already has opponents in mind for his next fight. The Philadelphian has been anticipating his time on top of the ring with Manny Pacquiao, and his convincing against Redkach should nudge him closer to that dream. Garcia is convinced the Pacman will fight him next.
Speaking with the press days before the Garcia vs. Redkach, the American took note that talks of him clashing with the Filipino boxing icon have been swirling around in the last two years, yet nothing concrete came out of it.
So he issued a challenge to the current WBA super-welterweight champion: "I'm here. Let's get it on."
The call, according to The Phil Daily Inquirer, also applies to other willing challengers, chief of them the IBF and WBC welterweight king Errol Spence Jr.
About his bout with the defeated Ukrainian, Garcia repeated the dare he made a few days back and stressed Spence, and Pacquiao would be next on his list. He is ready to rumble and will pick up any of the two.
"Either of those fights I would like to have. My style looks great with both fighters," the triumphant fighter declared.
Days after his win, which came after a lull of nine months from the ring, Garcia is singing the same song. He conceded his goal of knocking down Redkach was not achieved but asserted: "I felt like I won the fight. I won the fight easy."
According to Boxing Scene, Garcia was quick to remind he overwhelmed Redkach, whom he described as "a tough guy." More notable about the win, he added, is that Redkach was fresh from three consecutive wins as opposed to nearly a year of no active boxing for the victor.
Yet he conquered and mightily so, Garcia said.
"On to bigger and better things. Maybe this is the type of performance I needed for Manny Pacquiao or somebody else to fight me," he declared.
He added that after dealing with the southpaw Redkach, his confidence level of putting up an effective challenge to a fighter of the same style has increased. Garcia admitted that, for instance, plotting a game plan against a Manny Pacquiao is not easy.
"Manny has a certain type of style that's hard to train for ... So, you've just gotta go in there and make adjustments," Garcia was reported as saying.
However, defeating Redkach opened up a new perspective for Garcia on how to handle a southpaw opponent.
"It definitely gives you the right look to fight another southpaw," Garcia said.
