After reports emerged Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal exit brings Prince William and Prince Charles closer, news has it that the Duke of Cambridge is trying not to outdo his father. With the Sussexes' departure, the second in line to the throne has to take in more royal works, but being cautious not to surpass the future king.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's exit only means more responsibilities for the second in line to the throne and his wife, Kate Middleton, in the monarchy. In fact, the Cambridges are now receiving praise for their performances.

However, a source said, via Express, that Prince William doesn't want to be seen as "elbowing Prince Charles" out of the way with the royal duties they do. Hence, he doesn't care about the issue that he is not taking enough royal duties and being dubbed as a "reluctant royal" for only doing 204 royal engagements in one year in 2016 compared to others.

Prince William's time away from the spotlight is said to have helped Prince Charles. As he had a few years of having a family life with Kate Middleton, it gave him the foundation to move into the next phase. "So he doesn't feel he is jumping off a cliff," the insider added.

The father-of-three insisted that he takes his duty and responsibilities as the future monarch "very seriously." However, he believed that he has to find his own way at the right time to develop his role correctly.

Business Times also recently reported that Prince William and Prince Charles are now much closer, thanks to the recent royal crisis that brought them together. Kate Middleton's husband reportedly had a strained relationship with his dad, but everything seemed to change when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the monarchy.

Their move to Canada seemed to bring a positive effect on Prince William and Prince Charles' relationship after the father and son came together to unite and solve the controversy at the recent Sandringham summit. Royal expert Richard Kay told The Times that one of the few affirmative events that the royal crisis brought was pushing the two to come closer together for the first time in so many years.

New Idea noted that Prince William and Prince Charles also put their hurt aside as they worry for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's future after they leave their royal lives. They reportedly reach out to the royal couple with "love and affection on standby" in case they need them.
