Big Hit Entertainment just dropped BTS MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 "Outro : Ego" Comeback Trailer on February 3 at midnight KST. The anticipation of whether it will feature J-Hope or Jungkook was finally confirmed and it was indeed the rapper.

Basing on the title “Ego,” many expected a dark theme, especially because the other two “Rap Line” members, RM, and Suga, released that kind of concept before. But the recent trailer is unexpectedly upbeat, which many believe is a very “J-Hope thing.”

While the whole mood of the video is very cheerful and bubbly, one of the scenes was an easy favorite of all ARMYs. The last part of the first chorus showed J-Hope holding a birthday cake while wearing a party hat, hoodie, and pajamas. It then transitioned to a very young Jung Hoseok on his birthday wearing the same ensemble.

This scene inspired ARMYs to recreate their childhood photos as well. Fans then began to imitate their old selves and uploaded their clips on Twitter with the hashtag #EgoChallenge and it quickly trended on the social media platform.

ARMYs even posted RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook old photoshoots where they recreated their childhood snaps. Fans then noted that even the BTS boys participated in the #EgoChallenge.

With the positive message of “Outro: Ego,” ARMYs are having a field day sharing their entries for the #EgoChallenge.

Meanwhile, “Outro: Ego” is a departure from the previous trailer. Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow” was dark and heavy, while J-Hope’s comeback trailer has a more optimistic vibe.

But don’t get fooled by the colorful visuals of “Outro: Ego” as the lyrics continue the personal, self-referential, and retrospective narrative of RM’s “Intro: Persona” and Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow.” ARMYs are fully aware that J-Hope is known for releasing upbeat songs with deep and personal lyrics, and “Ego” is no exception.

“I go back every day to me of yesterday, to the life of giving up, I let myself go away. But in this world, you know, there are truths unchanged, time rushes ever forward, there’s no ifs, buts, or maybes,” J-Hope raps.

However, the lyrics of “Outro: Ego” also revealed that J-Hope is looking brightly towards his future. Although he ponders about his real self as Jung Hoseok and his BTS persona as J-Hope, he has learned to merge both worlds as they shaped his current identity.
