BTS is currently the biggest boy band on the planet. RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook have broken records after records, garnering them the superstardom status.

However, some lyrics of their songs revealed that achieving fame and fortune is not all rainbows and butterflies. Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow” shows the dark side of being on top, and he touched on this topic on BTS’s recent interview with Zach Sang.

When the host asked, “What message do you want to share with the BTS ARMY going to this next era for you guys?” Suga replied with his reflection on fame and destruction.

“One message that penetrates the album as a whole is that you must face your inner shadows but resist becoming submerged into its depths,” the BTS rapper said. “You must face it and move on forward.”

Zach Sang then added that “facing the shadow, which is the dark side of you, once you face it, you learn from it, then you move on. But you can’t move on until you face it, right?” RM then agreed, saying, “of course, not.”

Suga’s response was similar to his lines in his recent solo trailer. Known for his personal and introspective lyrics, Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow” has some lines that are beautiful yet painful at the same time.

In 2013, the BTS boys were still aiming for the things that they have today — success, fame, and fortune. However, Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow” lyrics seemingly proved that achieving success, fame, and fortune doesn’t necessarily mean happiness.

“I wondered every day how far I’d go, I came to my senses and I find myself here,” Suga rapped. “Shadow at my feet. Look down, it’s gotten even bigger. I run but the shadow follows. As dark as the light’s intense, I’m afraid, flying high is terrifying."

Suga may have finally achieved what he was achieving back in 2013, but it appears that he also has to face the consequences. He discovered that success comes with a price, and he seemed not to be ready for it. "No one told me how lonely it is up here," he rapped.

Meanwhile, many believed that BTS’ MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 is going to be a reminder of how it all started for the group. RM’s “Intro: Persona,” Suga’s “Interlude: Shadow,” and J-Hope’s “Outro: Ego” trailers have been dropping hints at the “going back to the beginning” concept.
