Cristiano Ronaldo is turning 35 this week, and he continues to write history for Juventus. The Portugal international has scored 15 goals in 10 straight games for the Serie A club, marking another milestone for the prolific striker that is widely considered as among the greatest footballers of all time.
Notably, the Portuguese started slowly in the current campaign, but pick up he did and in amazing fashion. By scoring in all the last 10 games for the Turin club, Ronaldo smashed the 15-year-old Juventus record held by David Trezeguet.
In 2005, the French legend registered goals in nine games in a row while wearing the Juve jersey. It took more than a decade to break the record, and it's hardly surprising that the man who made the feat is named Cristiano Ronaldo.
The superstar has been unstoppable in the last two months, and there might be compelling reasons why he is playing all fired up. One could be Juventus winning a slot in the Champions League, which according to Give Me Sport is Ronaldo's favorite competition.
However, it seemed undeniable that the five-time Ballon d'Or awardee is wanting to prove something to the soccer world - that he is much better than Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
It is no coincidence that Ronaldo started showing flashes of his old self when Messi bagged his sixth Ballon last December 2019. After that event, the Juve star has been relentless in screaming out to the world that slowing down is not yet a reality for him.
Sure enough in Juventus' last game on Saturday, Ronaldo appeared on his tenth straight game where his name was listed as among the scorers. He kicked in his 15th that will surely immortalize his name, Metro reported.
"Ronaldo turned 35-years-old this week but is showing no signs of slowing down as his outrageous scoring streak continues," the report said.
His accomplishments in two decades of playing the game still serve to amaze the former Real Madrid star.
"This never came into my mind. I wanted to be a professional footballer, but I didn't think I was going to win everything I've won ... At 35? I thought I was going to be a fisherman in Madeira," Ronaldo was reported as saying.
But the superstar writing history has been dampened by the fact that Juventus lost the Serie A lead as the Old Lady suffered two defeats on the club's last three games. Inter overpowered AC in the Milan derby on Sunday, which allowed the former to get past Ronaldo's club.
