Station 19 season 3 delivered a shocking event that could change the lives of some of the characters. Original cast member Alberto Frezza has been part of the series from the start, but his character Ryan was killed off this season and his death shocked many viewers.

In Station 19 season 3, Ryan didn't survive in the shooting that happened at the end of episode 2. The character died after being accidentally shot by a young child who got the gun inside his hand. Frezza knew how his character will end up, but his death is still heartbreaking and shocking to many.

But, is there a possibility Ryan will come back to Station 19 season 3? That seems unlikely, but executive producer Krista Vernoff has something to say about that matter. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said Frezza's character may appear again -- possibly in flashback scenes.

Vernoff said they love Ryan and his death is a painful loss in the series. He died at the hands of a 3-year-old, who taught he was just playing a toy gun. His death may also raise awareness regarding gun safety as she said 4.6 million children in the US live in houses with unlocked and loaded guns.

She added they protected the actor throughout the experience, and the boy was holding a green block and they replaced in visual effects. Now, she hopes Ryan's death would inspire people to save their family by locking up their guns.

Meanwhile, it wasn't Frezza's decision to leave the series. Speaking to Us Weekly, the actor explained it was a creative decision behind the scenes. He revealed he got a call from Vernoff and she told him about her plans for the third installment.

Frezza said Vernoff wanted to create certain conflicts and more drama in Andy's life. So, they started it by getting rid of Ryan, her best friend, and the love of her life. His death does shake up Andy's story, and it's just a hint that more tragedies are waiting for her in the future.

As for how he reacted regarding Ryan's death, Frezza said he's sad at first but he also understands why Vernoff wanted his character to leave that way. He noted it's a powerful message and such stories should definitely be told. While it's a sad moment for him, it's also a nice way to go out at the same time.

Station 19 season 3 airs every Thursday on ABC.
