Prince Charles’ relationship with his children is totally different from Prince William’s bond with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. It is easy to see that the future King is less close to his sons unlike the Duke of Cambridge and his children who appeared to be very tight.
However, this does not mean that Prince Charles and Prince William’s relationship is non-existent. In fact, the pair shared a touching moment during a rare joint engagement.
Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton all joined together to check out the facilities available to injured service personnel at The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Stanford Hall in Nottinghamshire. The four royals were given a tour as they met patients undergoing gym rehab sessions and they visited the prosthetics workshops as well.
Since they were already there, it felt natural for Prince Charles and Prince William to test out the facilities, including the basketball court. The Duke of Cambridge sat in a wheelchair, attempting to shoot a ball, as the Prince of Wales pushed him along.
With the help of his father, Prince William managed to shoot a ball through the basketball ring while sitting in a wheelchair. The audience was very impressed with the Duke of Cambridge’s skill and they cheered for him. A very proud Prince Charles then squeezed his eldest son on the shoulder, assuring him that he did a great job.
This rare public display of affection of Prince Charles to Prince William was a breath of fresh air as the future King himself shared that he was not close to his parents because they were busy completing their royal obligations when he was growing up. He also noted that Her Majesty and Prince Philip were strict.
A throwback photo even proved this revelation even more. While it’s already a confirmed fact that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles didn’t have the usual sweet mother and son relationship, the snap showed everyone a visual of their emotionless bond.
In the photo, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles were beside each other. However, neither of them looked at the other. Her Majesty looked at something or someone on the left side, while her son looked in the same direction and just stood there awkwardly with his hands behind him.
While a mother’s love will always be there, Queen Elizabeth seemed to have a different approach in showing her affection towards Prince Charles. The snap certainly revealed that Her Majesty and the future king are not really showy like Prince William and Kate Middleton to their children.
