Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement to step back from being senior royals last month truly shook the Royal Family household to the core. Many believed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are not doing anything good to the monarchy and are choosing wrong decisions after the other.
However, an opinion columnist claimed that despite all the hate and criticisms thrown at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s way, they are actually less to worry about when it comes to the future of the Royal Family. Rita Panahi shared that Prince Charles is a greater danger than the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
"I think Prince Charles is far more [dangerous] to the future of the monarchy than Harry and Meghan,” she said. “At the end of the day, Harry is sixth in line to the throne, they’re out, they’re extra royals. Don’t need them. Prince Charles, he is the next king and these royals live a long time, he might be king for a good 20-30 years. I don’t think the monarchy can survive the reign of a Prince Charles, a King Charles I should say."
Rita Panahi insisted that Prince William would be a better choice as Queen Elizabeth’s successor. She said that Prince Charles is "polluting" the Royal Family with his political views, and the Duke of Cambridge is the only solution to stop this.
At 93 years old, Queen Elizabeth is not showing any signs of slowing down. However, if Her Majesty will eventually decide to retire, Prince Charles will take over. Rumor has it that the Queen already gave up on her son and is focusing more on Prince William.
A royal fan took to the online forum site Quora to share that Queen Elizabeth can’t have given up on Prince Charles. The fan noted that Her Majesty even gave full support to her son at the Commonwealth Heads of Government in 2018.
But the fan did acknowledge all those speculations that Queen Elizabeth is putting more effort and spending more time with Prince William and Kate Middleton. He said the reason behind this is that Her Majesty is fully aware that there is a high chance she wouldn’t be around anymore when Prince William becomes the King of England.
Since Prince Charles has been with his mother’s side for quite a long time while she’s doing her royal duties, Queen Elizabeth knows that the Prince of Wales is knowledgable enough to rule. As for Prince William, Her Majesty has lesser time with him, so that's probably the reason why she's making an effort to mentor him.
