It was a mistake to trust that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is capable of handling Manchester United, and more so of leaving with the money to spend on transfer plans by the English club. The Red Devils remain in a struggling form and pundits are far from convinced things will get any better under the Norwegian boss.

Simon Jordan, who used to be the chair for Crystal Palace, is questioning the wisdom of making Solskjaer team manager in March 2019. He said the club made a bad call last year of giving Solskjaer "the job after what he achieved in just a few games."

The former exec seemed to refer to the circumstances that immediately occurred after the current United boss took over from Jose Mourinho in late 2018, according to Metro. The squad performed well but made a noticeable slump when Solskjaer was made permanent boss.

It was a wrong move, and according to Jordan, United overestimated what Solskjaer can actually deliver.

"I really don't think the manager is capable of managing whoever they put in there to get Man United back to the level they need to be. Would I give Solskjaer £150 million or £200 million to spend? No. I wouldn't have given him the job in the first place," said Jordan.

"I think it was a poor decision ... I think it was an unavoidable mistake."

This latest observation that questions the United boss' leadership further stirred up the rumors that while the club hierarchy provided a vote of confidence to the man in charge, his stay at Old Trafford is not entirely secured.

One reason that could lead to Solskjaer's eventual firing from United is the below-par performance of members of the team roster, in particular Anthony Martial.

Martial was acquired at a staggering cost of £58 million, but the promises that came with the hiring back in 2015 have yet to be realized. The Frenchman is now being deemed a disappointment due to issues on consistent showing, and according to Steve Nicol, the forward may just cost Solskjaer his job.

The former Liverpool defender feared that Martial is now a source of frustration for the United leadership, explaining, "I expected a lot more from this guy. He can't keep himself fit."

"In the football business, there are certain players that we say will get you the sack. He's a guy that will get you the sack. You play three games, he does absolutely nothing, you're about to take him off again and he scores a stunning goal," Mirror reported Nicol as saying.

Meanwhile, as rumors swirl that United will soon let go of the present head coach, Mauricio Pochettino has openly declared he is looking forward to getting another managing job with a Premier League club.

"I would love to work in the Premier League. It's going to be difficult, I know, and for now, it's a moment to wait and we'll see what happens," Bleacher Report quoted the former Tottenham chief as saying.

The statement was made as Pochettino is heavily linked with talks that he is lined up to replace Solskjaer at the end of the season.
