Riverdale season 4 episode 13 aired on The CW on Wednesday night, Feb. 12, with the title "Chapter Seventy: The Ides of March." The episode is still exploring some of the bizarre and mysterious happenings in the series, but the most shocking event here is the apparent death of Jughead Jones. However, is Cole Sprouse's character dead or not?
Jughead's death has already been teased is the previous season and flash-forward scenes. Now, that moment has already happened as Riverdale season 4 episode 13 hinted the character is gone for good. The episode was Archie checking Jughead's pulse and there's nothing there, leading to speculations he is, indeed, dead.
In Riverdale season 4 episode 13, Betty and Jughead continue investigating the latter's classmates at Stonewall Prep. The two, along with Veronica and Archie, head to the school for an Ides of March party. It's apparent that Donna Sweet and Brett Weston Wallis were involved in the bizarre happenings, but it seems like everything leads back to Mr. Dupont.
It's unclear what Jughead was planning at the party, but he was seen bringing a knife and a bunny mask. However, he ditched the mask and went to the woods with Brett, while Betty and Donna followed close behind. Then, Donna told Betty she visited Evelyn Evernever in prison, where she told Donna about the "magic words" that could make Betty hurt the people she loves.
That's the last moment Jughead and Betty were seen together in Riverdale season 4 episode 13. Eventually, Archie and Veronica found them in the woods, with Betty standing over Jughead's dead body while holding a bloody rock. This leads to several theories suggesting Betty killed Jughead. But, others pointed out Brett was the one who killed him and leaves the evidence to Betty.
Possibly, Donna and Brett got Betty to kill Jughead, but some signs suggest that's not what happened. There is a chance Betty and Jughead decided to fake the latter's death so they can get Brett, Donna, and Mr. Dupont off and start anew. At the last minute, the duo also bested the preppies, and everything that happened was just all part of their plan.
For now, however, it remains to be seen what really happened to Jughead in the episode. While the show teased his apparent death, it's worth noting that Sprouse is one of the main characters in the series. So, it is unlikely that the show would write off its main character, especially since Jughead plays a huge part in the series.
