It could be that United team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will soon be out of the job if the Red Devils will continue to falter in the upcoming games. Supposedly, Ed Woodward, the club's chief, is ready to ax the Norwegian boss if the match results to come will not point to a significant resurgence.
Amid the recent vote of confidence given to Solskjaer and the assurance that he will be given the time and space to rebuild the struggling United, such will not happen if the club will not start winning again and do so consistently.
According to Mirror, should it become a pressing need Woodward will not think to make the decision of firing Solskjaer.
"Woodward has told senior club figures he'll have no problem axing the Norwegian despite his cherished status as a 1999 Treble hero if a change is deemed necessary," the report claimed.
While considered a hero during his playing days with United, Solskjaer has become a polarizing figure in the clubs. He remains popular among fans, and many are willing to see the results of his rebuilding plans for the Red Devils.
However, the same report said a big chunk of United followers are convinced the former club star is not up to the task. For the team to see success both in the short- and long-term, a more experienced manager should take over from Solskjaer.
Ramblings such as these have fueled the rumors that the United manager could get the boot soon, and this in light of the recent hints provided by former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino that is might return to Premier League as early as next season.
The Express said Solskjaer would be closely watched in the games to come and if he hopes to remain the man in charge, he will need to score big wins. The United hierarchy is expected to see win in the match against Chelsea, which is the Red Devils' first game after the brief winter break.
When things go wrong in the road game and succeeding matches, it is believed that Woodward will let the ax to fall. As noted by the same report, Woodward has a history of sacking and already counts three manager firings under his watch.
So letting go of Solskjaer, despite his enduring popularity with the United crowd, will be a decision that will not cause Woodward to lose sleep.
Meanwhile, Metro said in a related report that Solskjaer has earlier submitted a request to Woodward that detailed the players he wanted to join United in January. But of the four names submitted to the club executive, Woodward only managed to sign Bruno Fernandes.
This new report appeared to support the earlier sentiments aired by United fans that Woodward was to blame for the lack of talents that came in for United at the start of the year. The failure to hire Erling Haaland, who is making big waves at Borussia Dortmund, is also being blamed on Woodward.
