The filming of Line of Duty season 6 has begun and BBC One shares some first-look photos of the upcoming installment. The Jed Mercurio series has been confirmed to be having an 18-month time jump and will follow the events that happened in season 5.

Recently, BBC released two behind-the-scenes photos to announce that filming of the upcoming Line of Duty season 6 has started. The images didn't offer much detail as to what viewers can expect, but it's enough to make them more excited with the latest installment.

In the first photo, Adrian Dunbar's Superintendent Ted Hastings can be seen in a uniform behind clapperboard. The second image, on the other hand, features Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), who seems to be leading a briefing.

In addition, Line of Duty season 6 is set a year and a half after the events in the fifth installment. The new season sees the AC-12 exploring a new case that focuses on an enigmatic Detective Chief Inspector named Joanne Davidson, portrayed by Boardwalk Empire's Kelly Macdonald.

Joanne Davidson is a senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case. She falls under suspicion because of her unconventional behavior. There are no further details about the character, aside from the official logline is that she is "the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 have ever faced."

Series leads Dunbar, Compston, and Vicky McClure are all returning in Line of Duty season 6. Other cast members set to come back include Prasanna Puwanarajah, Andi Osho, and Shalom Brune-Franklin. Additionally, Perry Fitzpatrick, who appeared opposite McClure in This Is England and I Am Nicola, will be part of the new season.

The fifth season left a huge cliffhanger, which made fans eager to see the new season. In the previous installment, there have been speculations that Ted Hastings might be the mythical H; a senior officer involved in high-level corruption and has an organized crime syndicate.

Line of Duty is one of the most popular series on British television, mostly because it offers unique stories. The show looks at police corruption and most of the characters are bad guys; those within the department trying to take down other cops.

Since filming has just started, the official release date of Line of Duty season 6 remains unknown as of the moment. But, CarterMatt noted the new installment may arrive closer to the end of 2020. For now, all previous five seasons are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
