Reggie Jackson will next play for the Los Angeles Clippers following his agreement with the Detroit Pistons for a contract buyout. Pending the clearing of waivers for the transfer, the Clippers should be all set to sign Jackson, who supposedly was also on the recruitment list of the LA Lakers.
The switch will allow Jackson to join his long-time friend Paul George, thus making real a dream by the latter to work on the court with his good buddy.
Prior to the deal, ESPN said: "Jackson had become the highest-impact player available in the buyout marketplace." With his addition to the Clippers roster, the NBA club can easily boast of having the deepest bench among the current bunch of title contenders.
It is expected that the hiring will further boost Doc Rivers' tactical options. Specifically, the Clippers head coach will find in Jackson, a highly reliable scorer with the ability to direct plays on the court.
The 29-year-old guard has only appeared in 14 games this season as he was forced out of action at the start of the campaign for weeks due to a back injury. Nonetheless, Jackson has started turning in impressive numbers and currently averages 14.9 points per game and 5.1 assists.
Per the same report, Jackson is deemed a significant contribution to the Clippers' cause and should play a key role in supporting the club's explosive tandem of George and Kawhi Leonard. He played the same with the Oklahoma City Thunder when James Harden and Russell Westbrook were still with the team.
Rivers is sure to deploy Jackson as part of the Clippers' second unit, the report added.
As mentioned, the Lakers were thought to be on the lookout for a talent like Jackson, but the team failed to make a move on the Pistons guard, who would have been an excellent acquisition in the mid-season. For a club that is bent to win titles, Jackson is surely a gem for his playmaking and sniping skills.
There was no movement seen in the Lakers camp heading to the February trade deadline, and it was strange on the team's part that Jackson was allowed to be snapped up uncontested, according to Lakers Nation.
Even with two superstars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, already leading the campaign, it was understood that the Lakers were looking to beef up their lineup in preparation for long and bruising games heading to the playoffs.
There were talks the Lakers had been working on getting Andre Iguodala from the Grizzlies, but due to lack of assets to bargain with, the former Warriors ended up with the Miami Heat. Now, the Clippers will soon welcome Jackson, who is another Lakers prospect that got away.
