Microsoft already unveiled its next-generation gaming console last year. However, it looks like the company has not yet drawn out all its cards for the Xbox Series X. Surprisingly, a new report claims that Microsoft seemingly revealed one of the surprising features of Xbox Series X.
Xbox Series X Has Dedicated Audio hardware Acceleration
Xbox Series X would reportedly have dedicated audio hardware acceleration. This alleged feature would help both game developers and gamers achieve a more immersive video gaming experience. The latest feature comes from the description of one of the panels of this year's Game Developers Conference (GDC).
One of the event's panels would be about spatial sound and will feature Rober Ridihalgh, a Senior Technical Audio Specialist at Microsoft. A portion of the event, which is presented by Microsoft, is titled "Building Audio Gateways Into Immersive Worlds With Spatial Sound." At first glance, the title hints of the potential feature of Microsoft's next-generation gaming console.
Technically, it is not Microsoft or Xbox Series X that would feature the dedicated hardware acceleration for audio. Like most other devices and gaming consoles, this is the result of the way the CPU processes sound, which could come with a graphics acceleration card. If Microsoft's Xbox Series X features hardware acceleration for its audio, the company could put heavy emphasis on its sound quality.
Other Details
It is interesting to know that Xbox Series X could feature better sound and audio quality. But, it is worth noting that it is not alone in this undertaking. Sony Interactive Entertainment Lead Architect Mark Cerny last year said that Sony's next-generation gaming console would have a custom unit that would support 3D audio. Through this, Cerny revealed that users would feel more immersed in the game since the sound would not only come in front of the user but also above, from the sides and even behind.
If Xbox Series X would have the same immersive audio for its gamers, next-generation gaming consoles are shaping to introduce major improvements not only in graphics and processing power but also in audio as well. With this new set of interesting features, it makes us wonder how much the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 would retail?
Both Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X are slated to arrive sometime in the Holiday of 2020. Sony has yet to officially reveal the PS5, and fans are looking forward to the official launch this month or early next month.
