The premiere episode of Outlander season 5 featured several joyous moments, such as Brianna and Roger's wedding and Jamie's speech. But despite that, the new season kicks off with a new problem for Brianna: she found out that Stephen Bonnet, the man who assaulted her, is not really dead. Now, Brianna has to protect her son, Jemmy, and herself from the darkness she went through in season 4.
In an interview with Parade, Brianna actress Sophie Skelton has something to say about this matter. She said the main thing for her character is fear, especially now that she learned Bonnet is still alive. And now, her main priority now is her son. Even though she got married in Outlander season 5, she's still suffering trauma from what happened to her in the previous installment.
Skelton said Brianna didn't regret visiting Bonnet in prison and telling him the baby was his. However, she knew he had a strange vested interest in Jemmy, which really put a chill through her. Now that she found out the man who assaulted her is still alive, she has to do everything she can to protect herself, as well as her son. However, things wouldn't be that easy for her due to her trauma.
The first thing Brianna needs to do is to prepare herself for the possibility of Bonnet's appearance at some point in Outlander season 5. Jamie and Claire may also inform their daughter that the pirate is still out there, not realizing she already knows about it. But unlike before, Bonnet isn't allowed to inflict any more harm, especially to Brianna.
Meanwhile, as for Roger and Brianna in Outlander season 5, she hasn't shared her fears with her husband. But then, he'll discover at some point that she's being hunted by the pirate. For Brianna, she thinks Roger already sacrificed so much for her; he gave up his modern life and followed her back in time. So, Brianna does not want to burden him more.
Also, Skelton revealed that Brianna and Roger's relationship has evolved in the fifth installment. She said the two are now in a much more solidified place, and they avoid the things that could likely ruin them. Now, both of them matured a lot, and they can communicate better and can talk things better without coming to too much of an argument.
