Following hints that DeMarcus Cousins could be back in action in time for the playoffs, the Lakers decided to cut the Boogie to make room for new signing Markieff Morris. However, writing off Cousins for the season seems premature at the moment. He might just suit up with a new team, and Purple & Gold remains a possibility.

The Lakers shared the good news recently that Cousins should be ready to play after the regular season. The center suffered a knee injury before the start of the season while already on the LA roster. According to Frank Vogel, the Boogie is on track to full recovery that he could be donning the Lakers jersey in a matter of weeks.

It appeared now that is not happening. CBS Sports said Cousins, who has yet to play in the season, is out and Morris is in for the Lakers.

"Making space for Morris on their 15-man roster, Los Angeles waived veteran center DeMarcus Cousins," the report said.

However, Cousins will not be departing from Los Angeles too soon. Reports said that despite the decision to let him go, the Lakers will still allow the big man to continue on his rehabilitation works using the team's facilities.

For his part, Cousins plans to remain in the city and take up the generous offer from the Lakers. He is sticking around, too, while weighing on his options and where to head next. It might be Cousins will not need to go very far.

According to Fadeaway World: "The Lakers are going to try to sign him once again. They even stated there was still a possibility he plays this season for the Californians."

The team's interest in Cousins is not surprising at all because, in a healthy state, he is believed potent support to the club that is headlined by LeBron James and Anthony Davis. As the same report noted, Cousins boast of impressive career stats.

The numbers showed the veteran center makes 21.2 points per game and hauls down 10.9 rebounds with 3.2 assists. It's hard to argue that Cousins when fully recovered, can be a factor to win and capture championships, a fact that surely is not lost in Vogel.

It could be the same thing for Steve Kerr, who is making preparations for the expected return of Stephen Curry to active play this March. The likelihood is it will be a short season for the Warriors, but Cousins rejoining the club is a picture that Kerr would be embrace for next season, by which time Klay Thompson and Draymond Green should be on top form.

Apart from these two promising possibilities, Fadeaway World said Cousins' next stop could also include the Miami Heat, the Houston Rockets, and the Toronto Raptors. These teams are top contenders in the current campaign, and they are expected to sustain the same showing in the next, meaning Cousins will still shine once he gets to pull things together.
