Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's exit from the royal family will somehow affect the charities that the Duke of Sussex has been supporting such as the Invictus Games. A new report revealed that some of the volunteers of the Invictus Games Foundation were furious with Harry because of his decision to leave the royal family.
Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan announced their intention to step back as senior members of the royal family. This prompted Queen Elizabeth II to call for a meeting between her, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry. In the end, the Queen announced that the family supported the decision of the Sussexes.
However, not all are extending the same support to the couple. One volunteer of Invictus Games said some are angry because they expect that Harry would help them find support for the foundation. Another claimed Prince Charles and Princess Diana's second son had left the U.K. for Canada without thanking volunteers or reassuring them about his future involvement with the charity.
"Everybody has been unwavering until now, but everybody feels they have been dropped like a bad habit," Express quoted one volunteer as saying.
Amidst the backlash, Invictus medallist John-James "JJ" Chalmers doesn't feel any resentment towards the Duke of Sussex. He is more than grateful to the 35-year-old prince for creating the games that changed his life.
Chalmers also believes that Invictus Games must "stand on its own feet" even without Harry. He insisted that though Harry is the founder of it, Invictus Games is not about him. It is about the wounded, injured and sick soldiers and veterans overcoming adversity to inspire others.
It looks like Harry will not leave the Invictus Games without saying a word. In fact, among his last engagements when he returns to the U.K later this month is a project for the multi-sport event that he founded in 2014.
Harry will be meeting up with Jon Bon Jovi at Abbey Road Studios in London on February 28, where the musician will re-record his song "Unbroken" for the Invictus Games Foundation. The song is set to be released in March and will also reportedly feature the Invictus Games Choir.
The 2020 Invictus Games is scheduled to be held from May 9 to 16 in The Hague, Netherlands. Harry could be making a statement soon on whether or not he will participate in the upcoming games.
Prince Harry is a patron of 14 charities and organizations. Meghan Markle, on the other hand, supports four after joining the royal family.
The Sussexes will officially end their royal duties on March 31. By that time, they will no longer represent the royal family on official duties including military duties. Moreover, Harry and Meghan will no longer use their HRH titles or receive any public funding.
