WARNING: This article may contain some spoilers for The Blacklist season 7. Read at your own risk.
The Blacklist season 7 is currently on its midseason break and the series is set to come back later next month. The series has been off-air for about three months, so many were excited to see what will happen next once the show returns to the small screen. Perhaps, one of the biggest mysteries here is Katarina Rostova's arc. Will her story continue or wrap up by the end of this season?
The midseason finale of The Blacklist season 7 is titled "Katarina Rostova," but it left a lot of questions about the character's fate in the future. She is number 3 on the Blacklist, which only suggests her story is essential moving forward. In addition, she's also considered as one of the Big Bads in Liz Keen's life, and she could also be the key to Liz learning a lot of secrets about her past.
Katarina, who happens to be Liz's mother, was thought to be alive for a long time. This speculation was confirmed in season 6's "Robert Diaz," wherein it revealed she's living in Paris. Liz helped her fake her own death, while Reddington believes her to be dead. So, what will he do when he finds out that Katarina is still alive? This might be enough to keep Katarina's story moving for a while.
However, there's also a chance her story will wrap up in The Blacklist season 7, and the series will choose to go in a different direction. It's also uncertain whether or not Katarina is the ultimate Big Bad in the current installment. There could be other larger threats coming, like something related to Neville Townsend -- Townsend Directive's supposed architect who was introduced earlier this season.
Meanwhile, the good news is that The Blacklist season 7 will not be the last as the series has been renewed for another season. NBC confirmed the show is coming back for another batch of episodes and that the entire cast is coming back. Many were happy with the news since there's no reason to worry for the rest of the current season. It's also a chance to explore and resolve future stories as well.
Right now, there is no official word on the episode count, but CarterMatt noted the new season may deliver another 22 episodes given that the renewal announcement was made early. Also, there's no official confirmation whether or not the eighth installment would be the final one, but viewers were hoping the series would bring a few more seasons in the future.
The Blacklist season 7 is set to return Friday, Mar. 20, on NBC.
