After Queen Elizabeth II banned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from using the word royal in their branding, the Sussexes insisted they could continue using the term. In the statement the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed, they claimed there was no jurisdiction of the word royal in other countries that they would be in.
The royal couple tried to trademark the words, Sussex Royal, to use as their brand, but Her Majesty stopped them from doing so. Following the ban, the two canceled their application and accepted the decision, which was said to be part of their royal exit deal.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be stopping using their HRH titles coming March 31. However, Express noted that they would retain the titles despite leaving the royal family. They then laid out all the details of their departure and the changes that would take effect in a lengthy statement on their website, Sussex Royal, which name might eventually change.
Here, they revealed how they could continue using the word royal but chose not to do so. They said that there was no jurisdiction by the monarchy or the cabinet office over the use of the said term overseas. However, they intended not to use Sussex Royal or any brand with the word royal in any place, either in the U.K. or other countries, when the transition began in the spring.
From the looks of it, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were trying to say that neither Queen Elizabeth nor the Government takes hold of the word royal across the world. So if they want to, they can technically use the term abroad. They just agreed not to.
A licensing expert revealed that the ban could lose 50 percent of their potential earnings for not using the word royal. HW Fisher's royalties and forensics accounting partner Stuart Burns explained that the two could earn a considerable amount of money from their royalties.

Royal correspondent Rebecca English revealed that Her Majesty and palace officials all agreed that the pair should not be allowed to use the word royal in their branding after they decided to step down as senior members of the royal family.
However, amid the complex situation, the fine detail about it still being "thrashed out." But, it is quite understood that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle already accepted the decision as part of the deal of their new working arrangements.
