Mohamed Salah is considered one of the key players at Liverpool, but his stature will not prevent him from leaving the Premier League club soon, likely in favor of Spanish giants Barcelona or Real Madrid. It's only a matter of time, and the Egyptian could be making the anticipated move, pundits believe.
One indicator that Salah's stay at Anfield will not last long is the apparent disconnect between the forward and Liverpool fans. The Reds superstar has been amazing since joining up with the Jurgen Klopp side, putting in a performance that is nothing short of impressive.
In 140 appearances so far, Salah has already netted 90 goals, and with the way he is playing, the numbers should be going up fairly quickly. Still, the club followers seem generally indifferent to the star as they do with other Liverpool players.
According to Gary Neville, Liverpool fans are holding back on showing love, affinity, and loyalty to Salah as they seem to anticipate he will not be around for the long term.
"I think there's a feeling that he wants to go and play at Real Madrid, he'll go to Barcelona, he'll take the big move ... I said 18 months ago I thought Mo Salah would leave Liverpool," Metro reported Neville as saying.
The former Manchester United legend conceded that when Salah departs, Liverpool will surely feel the loss. He added: "It's never easy to replace a player like that."
Also, Neville offered that Salah wanting to play for the Spanish giants is understandable, as the same was seen with the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. They wanted a taste of playing for the most celebrated football clubs in the world and, at the same time, get a better shot at winning the Ballon d'Or.
Salah has won the Golden Boots twice and is a Champions League winner with the Reds. It is certain that he will add the Premier League title soon to his list of honors, so it came as no surprise that Real Madrid will reportedly acquire him in time for the 2020 summer transfer window.
"Real are prepared to spend €150 million to sign the Egyptian," Team Talk reported, adding the Los Blancos will make a move following the decision to pass up Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Opting for Salah will allow Real Madrid to save up on the transfer fee and salary. Per the same report, Mbappe's asking price is pegged at no less than €300 million and the salary could go as high as £500,000 per week.
It is expected that Salah's weekly pay will be relatively lower, thus convincing Real Madrid that moving for the Egyptian will be the wiser move.
The Spanish giants will reportedly reach out to Liverpool and Salah once a deal on selling Gareth Bale has been finalized. Real will want to move out the Welshman to offload his weekly wage of £600,000.
