The big fish of the NBA trade deadline was finally caught with Andre Iguodala ending up in South Beach. The Miami Heat pulled off a stunner with several big-name teams in pursuit of the 36-year-old veteran. It was shocking to some, and it appears even the three-time NBA champion did not expect it to go down as well.

Shams Charania of The Athletic made a startling revelation on the "Pardon My Take" podcast, revealing some things that went on with Iguodala before the deal was sealed. He mentioned how Iguodala was not expecting to join the Heat, and he had a part-time job over in Silicon Valley. The company where he was doing part-time work was not disclosed.

Also, Charania detailed how the deal went down. Iguodala mentioned to him that the deal cropped up two days before the NBA trade deadline, but the 2015 NBA Finals MVP did not take it seriously. He felt it was another buzz, and that seeing it go down was uncertain. In the end, Iguodala got something probably more than what most expected. He was handed a two-year deal worth $30 million, a contract that would have been foolish if he refused.

Now, Iguodala not only joins the surprise team of the 2019-20 NBA wars but could get a shot at winning a fourth NBA ring. The road towards accomplishing that is not easy, meaning he will have to contribute to the charges of head coach Erik Spoelstra.

As of this writing, Iguodala's numbers are hardly glaring. He has played in only seven games, averaging 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per Basketball-Reference.com. These are far from his usual career averages of 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists, although he could pick up soon. His contributions will be valuable with the Heat looking to continue its surprising run. They currently sit at the fourth spot of the Eastern Conference with a 36-22 mark.

Iguodala joins a team that most felt would not make the NBA playoffs. They did get Jimmy Butler to boost their campaign, but no one saw their young core stepping up. Adding Iguodala further boosts their chances, but he needs to get his act together soon.

As for his future, it remains to be seen if Iguodala will play on once his contract runs out. There was the belief that he could end his career in Golden State. But this was if he got a one-year deal at most. Iggy will be 38 by that time comes. The Warriors could offer him a one-year deal, a gesture to allow himself to wrap up his storied NBA career with the team who helped him where he is now.
