WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Altered Carbon season 2. Read at your own risk.

The new season of Altered Carbon recently arrived on Netflix and many were delighted to see Takeshi Kovacs returning in a new body. Now that viewers saw the epic ending of the second installment, many were wondering if there will be Altered Carbon season 3 happening on the streaming platform. For now, here's what we know so far about the future of the series.

As of the moment, Netflix hasn't yet announced whether Altered Carbon season 3 will be renewed or canceled. But, since the series was just recently dropped on the platform, then there's no reason to worry about the renewal status for now. It typically takes about a few months to announce the renewal, so viewers may likely expect the announcement by the end of April.

But even though Altered Carbon season 3 will be renewed, it may probably take a little while before the new installment will be released. There is a huge gap between seasons, with season 1 and season 2 airing in February 2018 and 2020, respectively. It took two years for the series to deliver a new installment, so the third season may probably arrive late 2021 or early 2020.

As for the plot of Altered Carbon season 3, viewers can expect Takeshi wearing a new face. In season 2, his elite combat sleeve has been incinerated by Angelfire after sacrificing his life just to kill the Elder living in his sleeve. It was initially assumed he was gone for good, with Takeshi Kovacs Prime likely taking over as the new protagonist.

But at the end of season 2, Poe came back after being shut down. Then, he found out that there is a raw human DHF hidden inside his memory. Poe and Dig analyzed it to find out what is it. Later on, Dig declared they need to get a good whiskey, which confirms that the DHF is Takeshi. However, it's unclear how the DHF was saved to Poe's memory, so this will be explored in Altered Carbon season 3.

Altered Carbon is a sci-fi series set in a world where a "stack" is being implanted on humans' spines when they were babies. This will be stored in their minds and memories and can be transferred from one body to the next -- allowing them to gain eternal life. Joel Kinnaman starred as Takeshi in season 1, with Anthony Mackie taking over the role in the second installment.
