Glen Robinson III was looking forward to a promising NBA season and seemed to have gotten that when the Golden State Warriors took him in. He was a good fit with head coach Steve Kerr looking for a suitable small forward to fill up the slot left by Kevin Durant. Though their talents are far apart, what the Dubs needed was someone who can shoot from the wing.

Robinson tried his best to fit that role, but the Warriors just floundered this NBA season. Aside from the departure of key players, injuries made it even difficult for the Dubs to compete this NBA season. And with Golden State apparently out of it, most of the players they took in were traded away. In the case of Robinson, he was sent along with Alec Burks to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Though most know it is part of the business side of being an NBA player, Robinson was wondering why the Sixers took him in. The answer is that he had a good touch from the outside, a shooter that the Sixers are sorely lacking. But unless he gets the right amount of playing time, Robinson is unlikely to click and prove to Philly he is worth keeping.

Now, Robinson seems to be already pondering his future, Basketball insiders reported. He has played in only 7 games and able to contribute 5.7 points and 2.0 rebounds. He is shooting well from the field (63.3 percent) and the three-point area (40 percent). However, playing only about 15 minutes per contest hardly makes those numbers impressive. In fact, his playing time has been cut in half compared to when he was with the Warriors after a look at Basketball-Reference.com.

“All those things play a role, and then when you come here and your role’s not really explained or you don’t know what’s going on with the trade — it’s not like it was a trade where you come in and immediately have an impact. It’s a little different, so… this team is full of wings, full of guys who can play. So really, I don’t really understand it. But it’s a business, you’ve got to make it happen and go out and try to do your best every night,” the son of former top pick Glen Robinson said.

Robinson is likely to become a free agent after this season. That means he needs to find a new home, hopefully, an NBA team where he can blend in. As things stand now, Philly is not the place for the 2017 NBA Slam Dunk Contest winner.
