The longer that Paul Pogba is absent from the pitch, the more reasons emerge that Manchester United will do better moving on from the World Cup winner. The recent acquisition of Bruno Fernandes proved a fantastic move by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been advised to sell the Frenchman and focus on the talented Portuguese.
Fernandes jumped to Old Trafford in January, and the signing cost the Red Devils £47 million. After only six games in the Premier League, it's now shaping up that Solskjaer made a brilliant investment on the former Sporting star.
The Portugal international now boasts of three goals and two assists, and the numbers are enough to impress former England star Danny Murphy, who boldly predicted that Fernandes would be an "absolute superstar" for United.
Metro reported that United can be free of Pogba, who has been rumored to be working on a transfer out of Premier League, as Murphy is convinced that Solskjaer's rebuild plans for the club should now be centered on the 25-year-old Fernandes.
"I think Manchester United now have the green light to let Pogba go. You really wouldn't want to keep Pogba and play him as a defensive midfielder. They can build a team around Fernandes, he's that good. I would not be worried now [about losing Pogba]," Murphy was reported as saying.
Fernandes won praise for his football intelligence and his boldness on the pitch. Murphy said the rising star does not hesitate to operate on the dangerous zones, and in doing so, he has become a threat to the opposing team.
"Fernandes will score and make more goals than Pogba. He will be more effective than Pogba, his numbers will be better," the Liverpool legend was reported as saying.
In the last draw match that pitted United versus Everton, Fernandes averted a defeat by scoring the equalizer, but he insisted the last performance was far from satisfactory, noting that his club is yet to enter the PL Top 4.
"I had some shots outside of the box and I can do much better, but obviously the game goes like this," The Daily Mail reported Fernandes as saying.
He pointed out that United had the opportunities to score but failed to do so. It would have been a different story now for the club in the league if the three points were collected.
Nonetheless, Fernandes said the focus now is on the upcoming matches for the Red Devils. The team will be facing next Derby this week and then head for a Sunday showdown with Manchester City, which recently clinched the Carabao Cup.
