There was a time when Isaiah Thomas was one of the coveted players in the market. Though he is only 5-foot-9, there is no question that he pours everything on the floor when the opportunity arises. He proved that when he was with the Boston Celtics but things just went awry. Regardless, he remains hopeful that some NBA team would give him a chance to hoop.

Thomas' fortunes just went in disarray when he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving. It was the only logical deal that could be made back in 2017 but something that altered his career. He underwent hip surgery and things just changed.

He quietly stuck around and started the season with the Washington Wizards. He would be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers but was curiously waived not long after. The move may come as a surprise since the Clippers were looking for a point guard. As most know, the Clippers eventually picked up Reggie Jackson when he and the Detroit Pistons agreed to a buyout.

With the NBA regular season winding down, the chance of seeing Thomas hook up with any team is getting smaller by the day. No teams have shown interest in the two-time NBA All-Star, meaning he may have to wait until the summer to see if he gets a new lease. Whether it be now or in the future, Thomas believes he still has plenty to give in the league. He mentioned this in an interview with Hoops Hype.

“Ideally, I’d love to be part of a championship-contending team – a playoff team – because I know that I can still contribute and help win playoff games, if need be. That’s in my DNA. The biggest thing is just trying to figure out the best opportunity for me and staying ready. Understand that any opportunity that’s given to me, I’ll be ready for it. And I think everybody knows that,” Thomas said.

Thomas has played in 525 games averaging 18.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. The best year he had was the last one term he had with the Celtics back during the 2016-17 NBA season. His production just took a dip from there, struggling to fit in with teams that he joined thereafter.

There is no assurance that Thomas will be taken in by teams moving forward. Though he feels he can still be an asset, he may have to prove that through workouts. With so many free agents available, I.T. may need a dash of luck to go with that effort as well.
