Outlander fans were treated by a traditional dance from Jamie Fraser in the recent episode of the period/time-travel series. Sam Heughan, who plays the role, revealed that he struggled in learning the dance but not because it involved complex choreography.

In the recent Outlander Season 5 Episode 4, Jamie performed a Scottish sword dance. Heughan told TVLine that it is actually called the Highland Fling, a dance that Highlanders do before they go into battle to show the skills of a strong leader.

The dance has an interesting message of rebellion. Its movements are symbolic as it involves leg kicks suggesting kicking off the shackles of the British oppression and the hands move like the stag's antlers. Heughan said it was fun to see Claire (Caitriona Balfe) having a great time while watching her husband dancing.

The Bloodshot actor said it was fun learning the dance. He, however, admitted that he had a tough time learning the routine because of the boots that Jamie is wearing. Fortunately, he got help from a Highland dancer.

"Pretty tough, because the boots I'm wearing are impossible to dance in, and you have to be really up on your toes. It's kind of hard in those big boots. But I had a friend of mine who helped teach me; she's a Highland dancer," he said.

If the dance seems to be familiar for Outlander fans, it is because Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) did the sword dance in Season 1 Episode 14. In the episode, Claire and Murtagh traveled across Scotland to look for Jamie.

The two made a plan so Jamie will easily recognize that it was them if the rumor of travelers reaches him. Claire treated people and did palm-reading in their stops while Murtaugh tried to entertain people with his sword dancing.

Meanwhile, in the upcoming Outlander Season 5 Episode 5, Jamie's militia arrives at Hillsborough. He will learn that Governor Tryon (Tim Downie) has proposed a radical solution to deal with the Regulators. Roger (Richard Rankin), on the other hand, will learn new information about Stephen Bonnet (Edward Speleers).

Elsewhere, Marsali (Lauren Lyle) is getting more lessons from Claire on how to give medical treatment to people. In the teaser trailer for Episode 5, it looks like the two will conduct a risky surgery on someone. Outlander Season 5 airs Sundays at 8/7c on Starz. Episode 5, titled "Perpetual Adoration," will be available on March 15.
