It wasn't too long ago that fashion designer Paris Starn, also known as Paris99 accused Red Velvet of plagiarizing the concept of her clothing line. But now, the designer is working with the girl group on a collaboration.

According to a report by Koreaboo, the collaboration was revealed via Red Velvet's Twitter and Instagram accounts. They simply captioned the posts Red Velvet X Paris99 Collaboration.

The photo shows members Irene, Joy, Seulgi, and Yeri wearing dresses that were a similar concept to the controversial outfits they wore for their Umpah Umpah MV last year. The dresses seemed to be part of Paris99's Spring/Summer 2020 collection.

While the extent of the collaboration remains unclear as of the meantime, fans believe that the deal was struck when the designer reached out to SM Entertainment to air her concerns about Red Velvet's styling choices for last year's music video release.

It can be recalled that in August of 2019, Paris99 called out Red Velvet after they released the MV for their comeback Umpah Umpah. The designer accused the idols of taking heavy inspiration from the outfits that she designed and implied that there was plagiarism involved, Soompi reported

The concepts for pink space cowgirl outfits and the gingham dresses with wavy trim finishes were called to question as Paris99 revealed the items in her collection. The outfits were used in the teaser shoots and the actual music video.

While Red Velvet's outfits were not direct copies, there was a striking similarity in the concepts that raised the possibility of plagiarism.

Reveluvs, however, were quick to defend Red Velvet and urged the designer to talk to SM Entertainment instead, explaining that the styles and concepts of the group's comebacks were managed by the label.

SM Entertainment also took action quickly after learning about the designer's concerns, and immediately changed the outfit concepts for Red Velvet's music show performances.

Paris99 thanked the fandom for pointing out that Red Velvet was not in charge of styling and concept decisions and said she looked forward to hearing from SM Entertainment over the issue.

As the designer updated fans on her interactions with SM Entertainment, she said she looked forward to working with the label in the future.

This latest development seemed to be the culmination of talks between SM Entertainment and Paris99. It is expected that more details about the partnership will be revealed in the coming weeks.
