Korean drama The King: Eternal Monarch has dropped a new teaser and made fans guessing on how the story will end. The clip featured lead stars Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun.
The King: Eternal Monarch tells the story of two parallel universes: one resembles modern-day Korea while the other is an alternate universe in which the country is ruled by a monarch. The king in the alternative universe is Lee Gon (Lee Min-ho), who is trying to close the door that connects both worlds. The portal was opened by demons who were unleashed by a deity into the human world.
Kim Go Eun plays dual roles in the series: Detective Jung Tae Eul in the modern world and the criminal Luna in the Korean empire world. Lee Gon travels to the modern world and meets the female detective. The two will end up joining forces to fight evil.
The new teaser opens with Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun's respective characters meeting at the Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. Emperor Lee Gon is seen hiding in a white house while Detective Jung Tae Eul looks up at him. He suddenly walks over and pulls her into a tight embrace. Tae Eul is shocked to receive a hug from a total stranger.
She can be heard asking him if he is from a different world. Tae Eul is a hardworking police officer but she is also skeptical about supernatural things. She even describes herself as someone who still doesn't believe that the Earth is round. So it looks like the emperor will be having a hard time convincing her that there is a parallel world in which he comes from.
Emperor Lee Gon is also seen riding his white house in the forest and later on, vanishes through a portal. Towards the end of the tease, Lee Gon tells Tae Eul to come to his world.
The end of the video sparked speculations among K-drama fans on the possible ending of the series. Many believe that Tael Eul would come to Lee Gon's world and live there with him. Others think the emperor just like the detective to see his empire but the story will end with the two still in separate worlds.
Aside from Lee Min Ho and Goblin actress Kim Go Eun, the SBS K-drama will also star Tempted actor Woo Do Hwan and The Guest star Jung Eun Chae. The King: Eternal Monarch is set to premiere in April. It is expected to take the time slot of Hyena that is currently airing on Saturdays and Sundays at 10 pm KST.
The SBS series is Lee Min Ho's comeback K-drama after he completed his mandatory military service in April 2019. The 31-year-old actor was last seen in Legend of the Blue Sea in 2016.
