Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, will be stepping up their roles in the monarchy as senior royals. The Wessexes are expected to take in more functions in the royal family in place of Prince Andrew and, probably, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they stepped back from their royal duties.

HeirPod host and ABC News royal contributor Omid Scobie revealed there is a high possibility that Prince Edward and Sophie would take on more work and senior positions in the monarchy. This assumption comes after the backlash to Prince Andrew's relationship with the criminal sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

At the recent Commonwealth Day Service, Prince Edward and Sophie were seated inside the Westminster Abbey alongside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to Express, they were probably brought in to take the place of Prince Andrew, who was not part of the event and the procession either.

Aside from the royal couple, Princess Anne is also expected to fill the void that Prince Andrew left to allegedly "keep the public and Queen Elizabeth II happy." Royal commentator Angela Mollard revealed that preparations for the Duke of York's birthday last February are now turned to the Princess Royal's 70th birthday in August.

"Into the breach has stepped Princess Anne," she said on the ROYALS podcast. The attention would be now on her, which she might not enjoy. As the big celebration for Prince Andrew's 60th birthday were all canceled, it now shifted onto her upcoming birthday.

As Princess Anne may only want to have a private and straightforward celebration by riding her horse, she seems to have to be jolly to have a party that she doesn't want. However, she allegedly has to do it to make her mother and the people of the U.K. happy.

Queen Elizabeth's youngest son, Prince Edward and Sophie, on the other hand, have been quiet and scandal-free for years. He was said to be molded in a "quiet and efficient figure" that doesn't seek attention or has been in the headlines. A source even said that they are both loved by the public for being "dutiful and uncomplaining."

There are even rumors that Sophie is one of Queen Elizabeth's most favorite people. She and Prince Edward also managed to influence her to watch the Netflix series, The Crown. Although they are both working royals, the public only gives them a little attention, but they now need to up their roles and attend critical royal engagements now that the royal family is thinning.
