It is not only Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that are being pitted against each other but their Instagram accounts, too. Although the two royal couples now have the same number of followers, about 11.3 million each, the Cambridges are said to be ramping up the so-called social media war by sharing a photo that mirrored the Sussexes' public display of affection. Are the future King and Queen consort copying the Duke and Duchess of Sussex?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are known for being a rather reserve couple. They are rarely seen displaying major PDA, but one of their latest photos from their tour of Island seemed to be different. According to the royal expert Sophia Money-Coutts, it looked like the future leaders of the Commonwealth just "ramped up" the Instagram war with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with their post.

In an episode of True Royalty TV, the royal commentator talked about the new loving pictures of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Express noted. In one of the snaps, they could be seen wrapping their arms around each other.

By the looks of it, as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle often hold hands whenever they are out and about, Prince William and Kate Middleton showed that they could do it too. "It's sweet, it's a lovely, lovely picture, but I just can't imagine they would have done that maybe a few years ago," Money-Coutts explained. "It's in the ramping up of the Instagram war or something."

Prince William and Kate Middleton may now be at ease to show their affection in public. After they have been very guarded of their moves whenever they are in a royal engagement, it looks like they have grown more casual through the years.

Their Instagram account, Kensington Palace, used to be the most-followed photo on the video-sharing website until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle launched Sussex Royal in 2018. Now, they both have 11.3 million followers. How does that happen?

According to Business Times, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Sussex Royal overtook Prince William and Kate Middleton's number of followers on Instagram after they dropped their bombshell announcement in January. At the time, they even surpassed the Cambridges' 11 million followers with their 11.1 million subscribers in an instant.

Their post about their announcement to step down as senior members of the royal family alone got over 1.8 million likes and 200,000 comments. Although the two pairs receive similar amounts of likes per post, their statement got a much higher engagement. At the time that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle posted their pronouncement, Kensington Palace shared Kate Middleton's photo for her birthday that only got more than 1.2 million likes and 30,000 comments.
