Manchester United star Paul Pogba shared a clip of him training that suggests he is raring to be back when the Premier League games resume. However, fans can't help to notice that while doing drills the Frenchman was wearing not a Red Devils jersey but that of his former club, Juventus.
The image of Pogba in Juventus color triggered speculations that he might be on the way out, which synced with the circulating stories of the midfielders jumping to a new league in the summer.
But the French superstar made clear his workout was in preparation for his return to United. Pogba has been forced out of action for the better part of the season. The ongoing campaign saw him mostly nursing injuries that led to only seven appearances so far.
According to the attacker, he wore the Juventus shirt in support of Blaise Matuidi, his teammate with France. Metro said Matuidi is the latest member of the Italian giants to have tested positive for coronavirus after defender Daniele Rugani.
As the report noted, Pogba trained with fellow United player Victor Lindelof and the Swedish was wearing a Sampdoria uniform that signified support to international teammate Albin Ekdal. The latter was also reported to have been infected by COVID-19.
The social media post from the United star was captioned: "Have fun working at home with my brother Victor Lindelof! Supporting our friends Blaise Matuidi, Albin Ekdal and all athletes and people around the world! Be strong, #StayAtHome and be safe!"
And Pogba anticipated that there will be buzz that his Juventus shirt will create. So he declared: "I'm just supporting my friend ... that's all, nothing more."
Matuidi himself confirmed he tested for the deadly but promised his supporters that he remains in good spirits, according to Talk Sport.
"I am positive, I am strong, morale is good, that of my family too. I am positive, we will come out collectively stronger from this test, it will teach us to know each other better, to be more united, more generous, better," said the Juventus midfielder.
"Today I remain positive. I am an asymptomatic carrier of the virus, aware of the privilege of being a professional footballer and as such benefit from regular and excellent medical monitoring," Matuidi added on his Instagram update.
Meanwhile, the rumors persist that Pogba will indeed don a different jersey for the next term. The Daily Mail reported United will be ready to talk with trade partners on the World Cup winner and a deal could be finalized in the summer provided the buyer will pay the price demanded.
United still holds on a deal with the Frenchman that will not end until the summer of next year but the club is "willing to listen to offers in the region of £100 million," added the same report.
